I will out today at a STEM conference on Environmental Education. Mr. Copley will be your teacher today. If you only have part of the period to work, then just do the first part. Otherwise do both parts.
PART I
First, look at Human Right's Watch Child Soldier's Worldwide list of countries where children are used as soldiers.
(Print a map from yoel.info.com and shade or color all the countries with child soldiers.)
PART II
Secondly, go to some sites and learn about Ishmael Beah and his home country: Sierra Leone. Then I want you to write a reflection on the question:
What do child soldiers experience that is similar to your childhood, and different from your childhood?
Links to online resources:
Ishmael Beah's official Website featuing his book: A Long Way Gone: Memoirs of a Boy Soldier
A link to an excerpt of A Long Way Gone that includes chapter 1.
Allow yourself time to write a good paragraph or two about what you learned from these links.
Turn in your map and reflection into the red tub.
See you next week. Enjoy your long weekend!
Mr. Johnson
